Contemporary composition facing creative processes of electronica and techno
Concert and concert-lecture

Bach made music from minuets, gavottes and courante that used to be danced at that time; Chopin did the same with waltzes and polonaises; Stravinsky wrote rag-times and even a tango. For the last centuries, dance music has been a source of inspiration for composers of very different aesthetics. And they have been able to recognise in their rhythm patterns and choreographies a starting point to enrich their language and develop new patterns of the sound organization.

Techno, house and other ways of electronic music seems to be so far from what we call “contemporary music”, especially in an academic environment. However, in recent years, European music has showed an increasing interest in compositive structures of the electronic dance music: overlapping sound layers, texture development, and a progressive conception of a stuff based on the combination of different rhythm-melodic elements.

David Ortolà, pianist and composer and also producer of electronic dance music and member of internationally renowned groups such as Lontano, Beltegeuse and Pajaro Dune, presents an activity in two different shapes:

a) DAVID ORTOLÀ CONCERT
Piano solo concert, with short comments that will introduce each work. Addressed to general audience. Length of the concert: 60 min.

b) “CONTEMPORARY COMPOSITION FACING CREATIVE PROCESSES OF ELECTRONICA AND TECHNO”
Lecture-concert by David Ortolà addressed to musicians and students, especially for pianists and composers. Session length: 60-90 minutes.

Both activities include live performance of piano works by Francesco Tristano, Justin Messina and David Ortolà.
